If the holidays depress you, you’re not alone. And, more importantly, you can do something about it.
Many of us feel depressed around the holidays. The passing of time becomes more evident, often we’re separated from our friends and loved ones, financial crisis is harder to manage, and expectations can be hard to satisfy. What can [...]
Single parents have their special needs. The number one rule for a single parent is to never leave their child with someone they do not have total and complete trust in, and that can’t be anyone they’ve known only briefly. Never trust boyfriends or girlfriends blindly.
Do you sometimes think you need parenting help? We all get stuck in a routine. Parents have many stresses and worries as the economy slows. Is it effecting your kids? What does your daily parenting habit or routine look like? Do you need to make changes?
Parenting is really about consistency. Kids need the same things everyday, [...]
As parents struggle with keeping jobs, paying bills, providing fun and education and good health for their children, they might just find that their blood pressure has become a health issue.
Blood pressure is directly affected by stress and diet. That’s good news because we can control those factors.
For healthy blood pressure eat lots of fresh vegetables, [...]
Well, who isn’t stressed? You can’t avoid stress, but you can try. At least try to control and manage it. We can’t be falling apart over everything and still parent, clean house, take care of job, kids, and friends and family. And, ourselves. Something has to give, and you can control more stress than you [...]
“Great Moms work hard. Great moms also know when to stop working, and just enjoy the time spent with their family. Lazy hours of talking, giggling, thinking out loud, playing silly games, or listening to your children’s chatter and dreams increases the joy in your family’s life.”
Involving yourself in their small talk now, will make [...]

Introduction: Laughter is a natural stress reliever, and we all need more of that! Stress stops us from enjoying the healthy benefits of small laughter. Introduction: I believe that stress accounts for most of our attitude problems, most of our foul moods, lack of sleep, road rage, and illnesses. About the Author As a mom, former foster parent, educator, family counselor, and business manager, I've walked many paths and write about them here. My university degree was in childhood development and since then I've taught elementary school classes, held parenting seminars, raised three boys of my own and foster parented over 250 kids and teenagers.
My husband, Lynn endured a long time career in law enforcement investigating hard crimes, sex crimes, and domestic violence. Together, our work has given us experiences that were tough, and we hope valuable to others. For a few years, Lynn transported federal prisoners as a Deputy Air Marshall. There, confined on a jet, and wrapped in chains, he saw firsthand where wrong choices land both young and old. Our journeys are full of opportunites, challenges, choices, and we live with our decisions. We tried to help those we came into contact with, but we failed many times. I think life is more about failure than successes and once we realize that, we have less heartache, taking defeat less personally, seeing the experience for what it is, a lesson. If you can, while you are still here on earth, bend down, and lift another up. It's worth it. You'll find that in doing so, your own burdens are lighter. It just happens. Let's talk.
We grew along with the kids we raised. We've made some mistakes, lived over them, and enjoyed some successes. We want to talk about it all, and hope it helps you.
